All the World's A Stage
Husband and I went to the theater and saw As You Like It last nigh. It was most enjoyable! This was the first time I've actually seen a Shakespeare performed live. I know, shame on me! It's been a goal of mine to see as many of Shakespeare's play live at the theater as I can. Well, it's a beginning.
The show was quite good. The actors wore contemporary clothes and there were several characters played by women that are written for men. Although I would have adored big, fancy costumes, I thought it was wonderfully directed and I loved the presentation.
Since the tickets were free, we splurged and went to a swanky (and costly) seafood restaurant. It was heaven. We shared some oysters and a crab salad as well as both having seared scallops for our entree. Oh, it was all so tasty! Perfectly cooked and seasoned. So, so good. We also shared a bottle of Riesling and finished the meal with some espresso. It's been a loooooooong time since we've had fancy food and this did not disappoint. The check however...well..yeah. Not cheap. $210. Without tip. Eep. We have the money, it's just not the best use of it when we've still got credit card debt. And a student loan. And car note. Fuck.
To make up for that extravagant dinner, we will be eating on the cheap at home until Husbands next paycheck. I"ll need to go to the store for a few things but, what with the weather being so nice, I think I'll make a run to our local discount grocer. We finished off the last of the leftovers today for lunch. Dinner was the rest of some sad looking greens topped with sliced radish, diced carrot, and clementine segments as well as a batch of upgraded Mac and Cheese. Not exactly health food, but it was all stuff we had and needed to use up.
We're making Singapore noodles for dinner tomorrow with a friend. Friend is bringing soy sauce eggs, which I've never tried but sound delicious. Wednesday a different friend is bringing over a big deep dish frozen pizza she got at a discount and I'm to provide raw veggies and dip. So, for at the least the next few days, dinner will be cheap. Lunches are whatever we can find and we have some veggie dogs that need to be eaten. That'll be good for tomorrow's lunch.
I work again this coming weekend and there's always a chance I'll be asked to work later this week, so I need to come up with a few ideas for meals that I can take to work. I'll poke around in the kitchen tomorrow, see what's getting old and go from there. Chili is always good and I've been freezing leftover beans and tomatoes for the next batch. Pretty sure there's a bag of veggie crumbles in basement freezer which will keep us on our quest for more meatless meals.
