Here Comes the Rain Again
So it begins. The basement is leaking, starting on the opposite side I had thought it would. Husband fired up the dehumidifiers and I have to say, it smells a little bit better down there. I'm going to have to do a little more poking around and see if other corners are getting damp. I just started a load of laundry, so I'll have plenty of opportunity to look around in our ancient basement.
Got up early today after a night of tossing and turning. I wanted to make sure I got the marinara sauce started so it had a full 8 hours to cook. I used a wonderful recipe from Budget Bytes that I've made several times before and now consider my standard marinara sauce. I can't recommend it enough!

I do make small changes. I like to add a little more balsamic vinegar than it asks for and give it a big splash of high quality olive oil at the end. I've also added mushrooms and really liked it, but we're out right now so it's pretty basic this time.
We'll be having that with some angel hair pasta, a small salad, and a baguette. I have some broccoli I might oven roast, but I may just skip it. I'm planning on adding a little bit of cream cheese to a couple of cups of the marinara sauce and then tossing that with the pasta and topping it with parmesan cheese. Yum!
Today is my dad's 76th birthday. He doesn't live in the same state as me, so I gave him a call and we had a nice conversation. Sounds like they're having same dreary weather we are, so it's a low key birthday for him this year. I'm thankful he's in good health and married to woman he loves and who loves him back.
Now the big news!!!
Husband got his yearly bonus today!!! It was smaller than last years, and not due to diminished effort on his part but because the Company states the weren't as profitable last year as the year before. I guess those big tax breaks for big corporations didn't really trickle down to the workers. Who could have predicted that???
Anyway, I'm still thrilled! Now we can take a vacation and get a couple of new computers and maybe even finance a new car! Ha! No. We've decided to divide into thirds and apply one third to the Mortgage, one third to the Car Note, and one third to Savings. We'll also be paying off Husbands Wells Fargo card so it doesn't accrue any interest charges but that'll be taken out of savings and won't effect how much we put towards the Mortgage or Car Note. I'll post those numbers in the beginning of April. That'll be a nice leap towards zero debt!
